Axemen win 91-71 against Saint Mary's without Sears, Filgiano and Smith

Owen Klassen gets past Huskie for the dunk

WOLFVILLE, NS - The Acadia Axemen basketball team opened home preseason play with an exhibition game against the Saint Mary's Huskies. The game replaced an exhibition game originally scheduled against the Calgary Dinos that has been rescheduled for next Friday night at 6pm.

Tied at 16 after one quarter, the Axemen led the Huskies for the remaining three quarters. Second year Axeman Jonathan Tull led Acadia with 29 points while teammate Anthony Ashe added 21 points.

Big man Owen Klassen netted 14 points and handed over 10 rebounds. Huskie Riley Halpin scored a team hight 26 points and Harry Ezenibe pulled down a game high 14 rebounds.

Notable faces missing from the Axemen bench included Tom Filgiano, Tyler Scott and Anthony Sears. All were not playing due to injuries.

Edging the Huskies 39-36 in rebounds, the Axemen had good board performance from Shaquille Smith and Klassen.

Acadia will have a week to rest for next weekend's two home exhibition games including Friday night's matchup against the Calgary Dins starting at 6pm and Saturday's 4pm game against the Guelph Gryphons.
